Less succesful weekend with technical failure for Sandström

July 1st, 2012

This years first victory for the WRT Audi R8 LMS ultra in the Blancain Endurance Series came at Paul Ricard. Not for Edward Sandström, but for the team mates in the WRT no 1 car.
– Our generator broke down, suddenly the lights went out on my dashboard and the car came to a halt. It´s particularly unfortunate since we had a great race pace and were ahead of the WRT Audi no 1 that won the race, Sandström says.

Edward Sandström, Laurens Vanthoor and Marco Bonanomi (who was third in this years Le Mans 24 h) qualified 11th for todays race at Paul Ricard.

– Paul Ricard really doesn´t suit us, since it has a chicane that lowers the average speed quite a lot, so we were really happy with the car feeling that good in qualifying, Sandström says.

The start went without incidents, and Sandström who had the first stint could work his way up the field and even be quicker than the winning team mates in car no 1 (Mies, Haase and Ortelli), but then noticed the generator problems.

– The lights went out one after the other, and then the dashboard went black and we were done driving for this weekend, Sandström says.

– Of course it´s particularly sad to get a DNF when the car felt so good, we had a great start with a perfect race pace. But these things happens, and now we can only congratulate our team mates in WRT and come back stronger for the Spa 24h, Sandström says.
