Audi Sport WRT drivers Edward Sandström, Marco Bonanomi and Laurens Vanthoor started 21st on the grid but are now fighting in the top three when only four hours remain of the Spa 24h.
– The car is great and we have, knock on wood, so far managed to stay out of trouble, Sandström says.
Edward Sandström drove a double stint in the start yesterday at 16, and got up from 21st to 4th, handing the car over to Laurens Vanthoor. But then Audi Sport WRT had maximum bad luck with the weather. A huge rain started just after their pit stop, and Vanthoor hade to get back in the pit to get the rain tyres on. The downpour continued for hours and led to many crashes and lon periods behind safety car.
Edward Sandström drove the double stint in the start, a triple stint in the night and one this morning. He´s quite satisfied with his driving so far.
– There are three Audi R8 LMS ultras in the top, and that´s what we are working for. But of course we are fighting for a finish as high up on the podium as possible, Sandström says.
