From 21st to second for Sandström and WRT at Silverstone

June 3rd, 2012

History repeats itself: Edward Sandström and his team mates went from 21st to second with WRT:s Audi R8 LMS Ultra in the Blancpain Endurance Series at Silverstone, GB.
– It was a difficult race with lots of rain and then drying track, we didn´t manage to get a perfect set up for it so we´re very pleased with our podium finish, Sandström says.

Edward Sandström wasn´t happy with yesterdays qualification where he got into a lot of traffic and only managed 21st best time, but it was still better than in the premiere at Monza, where they started 37th on the grid after a slight run off in the qualification – and finished second after a remarkable drive up through the field.

– Seems like we´ve started a tradition, to start way back and fight through the field, Sandström says.

The weather was hard to beat when the english gods of weather decided to bring a rainstorm and then a drying track for the last stint, which was Sandströms.

– We pitted from the lead, after Laurens Vanthoor managed to go from 10th to first, but since we have a bit longer pitstops than the Z4 we lost the lead in the pit. I came out second, and I´m quite happy that I managed to keep the position to the finish line, since the balance of the car wasn´t perfect in these conditions, Sandström says.

– For the next race in the Blancpain Endurance Series, june 29th at Paul Ricard, we will try to qualify a bit better. It´s fun to race through the field and overtake a lot of cars, but it´s a bit more effective to start further up…

The next race for Edward Sandström is next weekend, when he makes his debut in the GT Masters at Sachsenring, together with Christopher Mies in Prosperia UHC Speeds Audi R8 LMS Ultra.
