After seven hours of racing, Need for Speed Team Schubert has established itself in the top ten of the 24-hour race in Spa-Francorchamps (BE). Claudia Hürtgen (DE) handed over to Edward Sandström (SE) after her second stint with BMW Z4 GT3 number 76 in fifth place.
When the race entered its third Safety Car phase at 22:18, the team took the opportunity to call Sandström into the pits for fuel and a change of tyres. The Swede returned to the track without having lost any places and continues to sit two laps behind the leading Audi trio in fifth place.
Stefan Wendl, Team Manager: “The first seven hours of the race went very well from our perspective. All three drivers have been able to set consistently quick lap times throughout the race, allowing us to make up a lot of ground. The BMW Z4 GT3 is running flawlessly and the atmosphere in the Schubert pit area is good – although our team-mate Patrick Söderlund is gradually starting to get cold on the pit wall.”
Claudia Hürtgen: “Driving in the dark is no problem here. At night time it is quite dark in the uphill passage after ‘Eau Rouge’ and the section around ‘Blanchimont’ – a bit like the Nordschleife. However, the rest of the circuit here in Spa is really well lit and you can see everything well. You can even see the light drizzle, which has been on and off, in the light from the headlamps.”
